Kyoto
Dear Friends:
I have been in Japan for just over one month now and it has been a very busy time for me. Upon arrival I spent one week in Tokyo visiting galleries and museums and making contacts with friends once again. Tokyo, as always, was busy and stimulating.
After a few days in Nagoya, I arrived here in Kyoto on June 28. I spent a few days settling in and catching up on the past six months’ news before I began work on my new series to be shown here at GalleryGallery in November. The concept was well developed, and the photos taken last year so I was able to move ahead at a steady pace. I have just completed the layouts/’sketches” for six panels (30 x 400 an/12″ x 160″) and I an enjoying the challenge of the longer panels and the continuous movement of the images and the changing narrative.
My BIG NEWS of the moment is that I have moved to another location in Kyoto. Although I loved the old house and the neighborhood, it was too small for my studio work and the cost was a burden. I was very fortunate to find a house owned by a Japanese businessman who is now in Atlanta with his family. They were willing to rent to me for a reasonable fee. I will be living in the suburbs southwest of Kyoto on the Hankyu Sen with rice paddies and bamboo forests surrounding me — and I will have a separate space for my studio.
My son, Page, and his wife, Jeanne, will be with me from the end of July for a little over three weeks. We will enjoy the luxury of the larger house. At the end of August, we will all go to Tokyo for my show at the Wacoal Ginza Art Space. When my show closes I will join them for a week in Korea.
Greetings to all with my new address and telephone number:
